KPOP Influence on Global Audiences

If you have followed my media presentations and position papers throughout the past few years in Professor Reppert's classes, you would know that I have done a majority of my research on South Korean culture, specifically Korean Pop Music, or KPOP.

Because of my personal interest and extensive research of the KPOP genre, I have a solid foundation of the global impact of Korean KPOP idols. Of course, KPOP idols are not the extent of South Korean influence in the world, but these artists represent their culture and the trends from their country on a global platform.

There is no question about South Korean trends and their impact, but simply just a matter of how these KPOP idols represent their culture.

BTS

As I have previously stated, I have done extensive research on the most popular KPOP group in the world, BTS.

Over the past two years, I have produced several projects that went into great depth about the impact of BTS and their significance in the music industry, on a global scale.
Additional Research:

BTS not only changed the Korean music industry but the global music industry as well. Not only is the group made up of exceptionally talented singers, dancers, rappers, and producers the group is also responsible for igniting social change. The group is a huge advocate for mental health and uses their platform to fight against Asian hate in America.

BTS paved the way for KPOP groups in America, and since their debut in America in 2014, have changed the way KPOP music is received in American music charts.

There have been huge impacts and global trends by BTS, and their fanbase "ARMY". Thanks to their fans, there is not a time that a BTS song, dance, or fashion style is not trending.

KPOP Trends: Social Media

KPOP artists are known for their impressive dance routines, and people love to challenge their own skills online. Social media has provided a global platform for KPOP artists to share their music and choreography with new audiences.

TikTok is a huge platform for KPOP idols and fans to post their favorite dance routines from their favorite artists.

In their new anthology album that was released in June 2022, PROOF, BTS created one of their most complex dance routines for their new song, "Run BTS" which trended on TikTok.

Run BTS TikTok Dance Challenge

This dance challenge reached millions of KPOP fans and dance enthusiasts, and even fellow KPOP artists. BTS contributed to this trend as well, with their official page posting several different versions of the members creating their own videos to add to the trend and encourage fans to do the same.

BTS is not the only KPOP artist to contribute to this trend, however. Other well-known KPOP groups have trending songs and dances that have started a huge trend on TikTok.

Fans across the world have posted their videos to this trend, keeping KPOP at the top of the trending posts on TikTok. Even celebrities have joined this trend!

Sofie Wylie is an American actress best known for her role in the hit show High School Musical the Musical: the Series. A dancer and KPOP fan herself, she posted several videos learning dances from KPOP groups. One of her most popular videos shows her nailing a complicated routine from the singer, NAYEON.

These dancing videos sparked a new interest and brought KPOP music and artists to a new demographic of fans, across the globe.
